Influences Through Henschen’s Career
In this week’s sports psychology podcast, mental game of sports expert, Dr. Patrick Cohn interviews Dr. Keith Hanschen about his approach to mental coaching. This podcast is a special preview of one of 14 interviews with nationally recognized top sports psychologists. In this excerpt, Dr. Keith Hanschen talks about what had the biggest influence throughout his sports psychology career. He also talks about how his philosophy has changed since the 1970’s when he started. He talks about training a “whole” athlete.
Dr. Keith Henschen is a professor of psychosocial aspects of sports, or sports performance, at the University of Utah. He is the author of over 200 articles about sports psychology. He has been the sport psychology consultant for the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea, the U.S. Track Team at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Also, during the Salt Lake City Olympics, Dr. Henschen worked with three United States teams- aerialists, short track speed skaters, and long track speed skaters. Dr. Henschen also works with numerous college and professional teams in variety of sports. He has been the sport psychology consultant for the Utah Jazz for the past 19 years.
